PBAKL 2024 attracted an impressive 1.8 million visitors over its 10-day run, marking a 38% increase from the previous year. This surge was partly fueled by government-issued book vouchers—RM50 for primary students and RM100 for secondary and tertiary students—which significantly boosted book sales and foot traffic during the school holidays.
The fair transcended traditional book exhibitions by incorporating Malaysia's rich cultural heritage. Attendees enjoyed traditional performances like Mak Yong, a classical Malay dance-drama, and experienced augmented reality (AR) installations that brought spiritual narratives such as Isra’ and Mi’raj to life.
Innovative event technology played a significant role in enhancing visitor experience. The Jublia app, introduced for the fair, was downloaded over 8,800 times, facilitating more than 6,200 session views and generating nearly 490,000 impressions. This digital platform streamlined navigation and engagement for attendees.
The fair showcased a wide array of genres, reflecting the diverse interests of Malaysian readers. Horror fiction, exemplified by titles like the "haunted school" series from Penerbit X, captivated audiences. Additionally, comic books such as the "Budak Takraw" series appealed to younger readers, while publishers like Maple Comics and Fixi highlighted the thriving local indie publishing scene.
Social media platforms buzzed with content from the fair. TikTok users shared their experiences, including book hauls and special edition finds like "Revenge in Violent Hues." Instagram posts from booths such as Dakwah Corner Books offered glimpses into exclusive deals and popular titles.
