Global Investigative Journalism Network Conference (GIJC) 2025

The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN), founded in 2003, is a non‑profit association comprising around 250 nonprofit journalism organizations across 91 countries, dedicated to supporting, training, and connecting investigative and data journalists worldwide. GIJN’s biennial global conference is the largest gathering of investigative journalists in the world—it’s a flagship event for learning, innovation, and cross-border collaboration in watchdog journalism. The 2023 edition in Gothenburg attracted over 2,100 journalists from 132 countries—the Malaysian event is set to continue that legacy, with a renewed focus on Asia and digital-era investigative tools.

  • Over 150 sessions, including expert panels, hands-on workshops, and networking events.
  • Topics: AI, satellite imagery, data tools, media law, press freedom, climate change, security, stress management, storytelling across multimedia formats .
  • Global Shining Light Awards ceremony on Nov 23, recognizing investigative excellence under pressing conditions.
Call for Papers & Participation
  • The Call for Papers closed April 7, 2025. If you submitted an abstract, decisions came by mid‑May, with full papers due by July 15, 2025.
  • Presenters of selected papers are invited to present at the conference, and their papers will be published in a digital conference compendium.
Fellowships
  • Applications closed on February 14, 2025. Successful candidates were informed by April 15–30, 2025 .
  • Fellowships provided:
  • Round-trip airfare to Kuala Lumpur
  • 4 nights’ hotel accommodation
  • Local transport
  • Conference registration, meals, and evening events.
  • Targeted at journalists from the Global South and underrepresented groups, with an expectation to report on or present learning post-conference
